Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in responding to health emergencies, justifying this integrative literature review, which aimed to analyze the applications, benefits, limitations, and perspectives of AI in pandemic management. The research was conducted in May 2025 using the PubMed and Mendeley databases, with controlled descriptors and inclusion criteria focused on studies published between 2021 and 2025. The results showed that AI contributed to predicting viral spread, optimizing resources, accelerating diagnoses, tracking genomic mutations, and organizing vaccination campaigns through models such as convolutional and recurrent neural networks. However, limitations such as poor infrastructure, insufficient data, unequal access, and ethical concerns, such as privacy and governance, compromised its global effectiveness. It is concluded that AI has high potential but requires integration with public policies, ethical frameworks, and close collaboration with healthcare professionals.
