Abstract

Interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) comprise a heterogeneous group of conditions that affect the pulmonary interstitium, requiring early diagnosis to avoid serious clinical complications. Artificial intelligence (AI) has gained prominence in the interpretation of imaging exams, especially high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT), due to its ability to identify early patterns and assist in clinical decisions. METHODOLOGY: This study aims to review the application of AI in the diagnosis of ILD, based on articles published between 2012 and 2023 in the PubMed and SciELO databases. RESULTS: The findings show that AI algorithms have high sensitivity and specificity, with performance comparable to that of specialists. However, limitations such as low interpretability, the use of restricted databases and variation in imaging protocols reduce their broad applicability. CONCLUSION: It is clear that AI is a useful tool for supporting the diagnosis of ILDs, and should be used to complement clinical reasoning and humanized medical practice.
