Abstract

Mast cell tumor is one of the most common cutaneous neoplasms in dogs, accounting for approximately 17% of skin tumors. Diagnosis can be performed through fine-needle aspiration cytology, a rapid, minimally invasive, and low-cost screening method. This study aimed to describe the epidemiological profile of female dogs diagnosed with mastocytoma in a veterinary laboratory in Araguari, considering age, breed, tumor location, and size. A retrospective study was conducted based on 876 cytological examination records from 2024, of which 31 (3.53%) were diagnosed with mast cell tumor. The majority of affected dogs were female (87.10%), elderly (58.06%), and of mixed breed (51.61%). The abdomen was the most commonly affected region (35.48%), followed by the limbs (25.81%) and thorax (16.13%). Regarding tumor size, 35.48% measured less than 2 cm, 38.71% ranged from 2 to 5 cm, and 25.81% were larger than 5 cm.This study contributes to the epidemiological knowledge of this neoplasm in Araguari, where no previous records of its occurrence had been reported.
