Abstract

This integrative review analyzed studies published between 2020 and 2025 investigating the relationship between micronutrients and mental health in adults. The objective was to synthesize evidence on the effects of supplementation with B-complex vitamins, vitamin D, vitamin C, zinc, selenium, and tocotrienols on symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, and psychological well-being. Eleven studies were included, showing that these micronutrients have promising therapeutic potential for improving mental health indicators, particularly in mild to moderate conditions. Reported mechanisms involve modulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, neurotransmitter synthesis, antioxidant defense, and regulation of neuroinflammation. However, differences in dosage, intervention duration, and sample characteristics limit the comparability of findings. It is concluded that micronutrients may serve as complementary strategies for promoting mental health, provided their use is supported by consistent clinical evidence.
