Abstract

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality among women, with early diagnosis being essential to improve survival rates. This study investigated the applications of artificial intelligence (AI), with an emphasis on machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL), in the diagnosis of the disease. An integrative literature review was conducted using the PubMed and Google Scholar databases, including articles published between 2022 and 2025. Studies on AI applied to digital mammography, tomosynthesis, and magnetic resonance imaging were analyzed, considering metrics such as sensitivity and accuracy. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) stood out for their high performance in early detection, surpassing traditional methods and also contributing to risk stratification and prognosis analysis. Despite the advances, challenges such as data quality and external validation remain. It is concluded that AI holds great potential to enhance breast cancer diagnosis, provided it is ethically and collaboratively integrated into clinical practice.
